‘If they could just focus and do their jobs, my life would be so much easier. Last quarter, their mistakes cost me my big shindig. I get to be the person that lavishes everyone with the best night of their year, but now I’m a laughing stock. I’m glad they keep losing headcount. They deserve it. Operations seems so worthless.’
His friend’s face said it all.
‘I’m not talking about you, of course. You’re not like them. I look forward to the day you leave that terrible team. We’re cool though.’
‘Ugghhhh, accounting. A better way to say it: the group of people that we pay a pretty penny to, when their jobs could be automated. They’re such a drain on the system.’
His friend from accounting glanced at the operations fellow for a quick second.
‘You know what you’re doing though. That’s why we’re friends. You have my stamp of approval. You bring real value.’
‘…and speaking of automated: have you ever tried talking with anyone from IT or analytics? How can they walk around with their noses in the air like they’re so gifted, but they can’t handle basic requests? Their job is as simple as writing a few lines of code, based on what I tell them to do.’
