Inkheart Whispers

In a world full of noise, Mara was a quiet girl. She whispered into her journal while others yelled to be heard. Sometimes wild, sometimes wistful, her thoughts flowed like rivers over the pages, and her pen was her voice.

According to her mother, Mara had ink in her veins from birth. It wasn’t far from the truth.

When Mara turned twelve, she became aware of something strange. The following day, a scenario she had written about a stray cat showing up at her window, complete with the crescent-shaped scar above its eye, came to pass. She attributed it to chance, a mare coincidence.

Then, however, came the misplaced ring narrative. For weeks, her neighbour had been grieving over a lost heirloom. In a quiet time, Mara penned a story about how the ring was found inside a porch step crack. The neighbour discovered it two days later, exactly as Mara had said.

At first, it frightened her. However, the anxiety gave way to curiosity. She began to try it.

She wrote one evening about her younger brother being able to play outside because the rain had stopped early. Although there was thunder overhead, the clouds broke up in a few of minutes. Like a smile, the sun came out.
