Write Slowly
But consistently
I don’t remember why I started writing 2.5 years ago. I think it must have given me some peace. I started writing when I started living alone. Loneliness is a terrible thing to deal with. I started writing to get rid of it. Writing relaxed my chattering mind.
I learned about the monetization possibility from writing. And to do that, writing daily is a pre-requisite. Initially, I could not write daily. However, I overcame that. It was not that difficult after all.
I have created this to help you start writing daily. It gave me my first $1 in online writing and 16 new subscribers.
My next step was to monetize my writing. But after reading a few articles, I realized something else about writing.
I started asking the following questions again and again.
1. Why do I want to write? Is it just for money or something else?
2. What do I want to achieve from writing?
3. What lifestyle do I see for myself in the next ten years? How does writing fit there?
The answer to question 3 was a game-changer. Deep thinking revealed the below.
I want to live slowly, including how I write. I want to create things that I love to do and build a small online community to share what I have learned. It should improve their lifestyle in some way.
When I take a fast-paced approach to achieving monetary gains through writing, I miss out on vital points. Here is a brief description of these.
Creative joy
When I wrote without any deadline to publish 4–5 articles a week, I felt the true joy and ecstasy of writing. I had the best time of my life while writing.
When I had fun, I wanted to research other established authors. I am creating an ebook on life lessons and book summaries of great authors. Below is a quick 1-minute free demo.
Research
Reading books tells me the story of the making of an author.
While reading On Writing by Stephen King, I could almost visualize how the author struggled to be a writer and the ingredients of amazing writing.
While researching, I have learned different while researching writing lessons.
I have created a free ebook on , , and . I plan to publish more free ebooks covering other writing lessons such as eBook Creation, Landing Pages, Marketing, Opening Sentences, and SEO.
Natural likings
Since childhood, I have had a love for colors.
A few years ago, when I learned about Pinterest, it sparked my creative joy. The colors and vector images made me obsessed with creating more colorful pins.
When I take multiple breaks in my writing journey, I realize I can leverage this inclination in writing.
I can create images for my content and use graphics to present content in a different format.
Clarity on my offerings
When I slow down in writing, I think about my offerings. When my email list was growing, I had a strange question in my mind.
- What will I offer my subscribers in the to improve their lives?
- Why should they not unsubscribe from my newsletter?
- If I want to build a paid newsletter business, what content can I offer that they will be willing to pay?
These questions made me realize one thing.
I can write for days, months, and years on topics I love.
People will join my newsletter only if it solves their problem. How can I decide on the content without knowing the readers’ pain points?
It leads me to continue building my email list through free products such as templates, checklists, AI prompts, etc.
I saved myself countless disappointments and confusion.
If you are new to the newsletter, here is a on the topic and monetization through the newsletter.
Write slowly but consistently to explore the creativity and possibilities of online writing.
