Want To Test Your Relationship? Ask For Money.
Testing strength of one's association
I know that’s a provocative and compelling title that immediately hints at a test of trust, loyalty, and authenticity in human relationships.
My wife was recently talking about her exceedingly well-to-do childhood friend, saying that she is her only friend and that they always accompanied each other.
I jokingly told my wife to ask her for money to test how she thinks of her.
Maybe her friend could have done it, but my wife was a little skeptical. What if she didn’t?
“I will never be able to get over this rejection for the rest of my life,” my wife said.
Many might ask, why only money? There are countless other ways to test a relationship.
But this method is not easy — because to do so, one has to sacrifice their most valued possession: their dignity.
The Bhagavad Gita says that a tree laden with fruit must learn to bend, or it is bound to break.
Bending means letting go of your dignity.
The tree is heavy with fruit, the situation demands it, and there is no choice but to bend.
