Turning Pain into Laughter: My Odd Yet Genius Trick to Move On
Sometimes, we find ourselves stuck in a situation, problem, or embarrassing moment where we feel completely powerless. The more we think about it, the more we stress ourselves out, wasting time and energy. No matter how hard we try to ignore it, our mind keeps circling back to it. Sound familiar? Of course, it does. We’ve all been there.
So, how do you deal with it? Especially when you know there’s nothing you can do to change the situation, no matter how much you try. I’ve been in this spot hundreds of times, and over the years, I’ve found a way to handle it. It might sound silly or even dumb to some, but it works for me. Here’s how I trick my mind.
When I’m stuck in one of these situations like dealing with a breakup or heartbreak I know there’s no instant fix. Time will heal it, but in the moment, the pain feels endless. To stop obsessing over it, I intentionally create another problem for myself. Not something catastrophic, but something that feels big enough to distract me. For example, I might shave off my entire beard. Suddenly, I’m more worried about how I look, how others might tease me, or how I’ll handle the jokes. It’s not as serious as the original problem, but for me, it becomes the new focus. I enjoy the attention, the distraction, and it helps me move on, even if just for a little while.
