The Stubborn Donkey and The Wise Farmer
— A short fiction
In a quiet village, there was a wise old farmer named Michael who owned a small plot of land and a stubborn donkey named Jack. Jack was known for being difficult, and he often caused trouble for his owner. One day, while grazing, Jack fell into an abandoned well on the edge of the field.
Michael tried everything he could think of to rescue Jack, but the well was too deep. After a few hours, he realized it would be almost impossible to pull Jack out. Saddened, he decided that since the well was dry and abandoned, he would fill it in to prevent any other accidents. He figured it would be the most humane thing he could do for Jack, who was already old.
As he began to shovel dirt into the well, Jack realized what was happening and brayed in panic. But as the farmer continued shoveling, something surprising happened: each time dirt landed on Jack's back, he would shake it off and step up.
Hour by hour, Michael shoveled dirt, and Jack kept shaking it off and stepping up. Slowly, the well began to fill, and the donkey climbed higher and higher until he finally reached the top and leaped out, safe and sound!
Michael was amazed. He realized that life would sometimes throw dirt on us, but it’s up to us to shake it off and step up. Jack’s stubbornness, which had often caused problems, had now saved his life.
Moral: When life throws challenges at you, don’t give up. Shake it off and keep moving forward.
