The Prime Minister of My Country is a Rape Apologist
And what he said was unacceptable.
A few days back, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan did an interview with CNN where he was asked about the rape situation in Pakistan and how worse it’s getting. To this, Imran Khan was quoted to have said “of course when men see women in lesser clothes, they’ll have a reaction. They’re not robots.”
As you can imagine, this statement caused quite an uproar on social media where it almost felt as if he was blaming women and the way they dressed for rape. It even got turned into a meme just because his statement sounded so ridiculous.
However, we later came to know that the interview was misconstrued and it was edited and that they had missed out on some parts.
However, even in the unedited version, Imran Khan mentions that rapes are rampant due to the ease of accessibility of porn, and porn messes with the minds of the youth. Since Pakistan is a very conservative country, and members of the opposite sex don’t get to interact as freely early on as compared to western countries, it messes with their minds even more.
He then further suggested that this is why Islam instructs women to dress modestly.
