The Letter Writing: Ink to Obsolescence

5 min readMay 4, 2025

--

An Art that has faded considerably

Letter writing has almost become a lost art, as hardly anyone feels the need to write handwritten letters anymore.

Why would you, when messages can now be sent instantly through WhatsApp and a host of other social media platforms?

This ease of communication has put everyone — family, friends, colleagues, even the boss — on the same pedestal.

During my college days, I used to reserve Sundays for writing letters to my mom, dad, and sisters.

Some of those letters were particularly hard to write. For instance, letters to my maternal grandfather.

He was among the early generation of educated men in our society and held a position of significance.

Writing to him was always a daunting task. Finalizing such a letter typically required five to six drafts.

Did this practice help me in any way? Yes, it certainly did.

Today, I write effortlessly on Medium, maintain two other blogs, and contribute regularly to Quora and LinkedIn.

Typical Case of Love Letters

I remember one of my friends had a girlfriend who used to write love letters to him in the most creative way.
