Spirit Guide Saved Me From the Abyss
A poem
I stood alone
in the pre-dawn hours
silver linings stretched across the mountain peaks
stars twinkled in the mottled azure midnight-blue sky
Annapurna stretches before me
welcoming me into her arms
feeling at one with Mother Nature
breathing gold in the near-freezing air
lungs expand
revealing my body’s fibers and particles
peace inhabits my soul
Lost in thought
movements unnoticed
I glance to my right
Bishal stands beside me
and greets me warmly
Sublime joy gives way to isolation
the ground quivers
legs turn to jelly
senses alert
it is not an earthquake
tectonic force
crushes Earth’s ceiling
mountains crumble
abyss tendrils thread through me
threatening to steal my life force
