Osho’s Teachings on Happiness: A Personal Reflection
His more extreme teachings on detachment, dissolving the ego, and living without structure are aspects that I find difficult to integrate into my daily life.
Happiness is one of those elusive experiences that everybody pursues, yet is mostly a mirage. Like most people, I have sought answers from books, spiritual teachers, and my own introspections. But one figure who always intrigued me is Osho, a very controversial yet charismatic Indian mystic who delved deep into the core of human consciousness, freedom, and joy most of his life. His ideas about happiness are profound at times; they are provocative but not always appealing.
Happiness Is an Inner Journey
“Happiness has nothing to do with success. Happiness has nothing to do with ambition, happiness has nothing to do with money, power, prestige. It is a totally different dimension. Happiness has something to do with your consciousness, not with your character.”
As far as the basic concepts of Osho go, the ideas include that happiness does not lie outside; it is an inner state that one can bring about at any moment in life, irrespective of what is happening outside. This rings so true for me. I’ve fallen so…
