Beyoncé is one of the best performers of our day. (inspired by the remake of the Disney Classic The Lion King) is an anthem of self-worth.

I Love this song! Some Songs are written to be inner thoughts of one’s mind, but this song( to my understanding) is a talk between Beyonce and her children. That happens to extend to every listener who has experienced the value of advice from a loved one about their self-worth.

It has both power and beauty, which amplifies the lessons, both subtle and precise, that are in the song.

Living Manifestation

The Bible is full of prophecy. It tells of future things that are to come to pass. So, if you are religious from a Christian perspective, this dispensation has many signs of old Biblical prophecies.

My understanding of the purpose of the Bible (and all scripture) is that the Bible is a gift from God for us to use as a teaching guide, comfort, and warn us. It allows us to apply spiritual principles to our lives and make good decisions.

Now, I do not know Beyoncé’s religious beliefs. Still, even as a metaphor, I think there is a valuable lesson to learn from these words.

Lyrics

“…Not just some words in a bible verse

You are the living word…”

Knowing what I know about scripture and its simple but meaningful purpose, these words remind me that now is the time to choose who you want to be. We are now a living manifestation of what’s been foretold. It’s no longer words of the future. It’s now!

Whether from the Bible, what your parents shared with you when you were a child, or even what society has said, the future is now the present.

Soul Yearning Questions

To seek understanding is to seek truth and progress for one’s life and the world. I love these words!

Lyrics

“…Understand the truth about that question in your soul

Look up, don’t look down, then watch the answers unfold…”

First off, she says it with lots of encouragement. It is like a respectful command, which I appreciate because people have soul-searching questions more often than not, but sometimes, finding those answers isn’t always encouraged by those around them.

She then proceeds with “Look up,” which is vital because looking up is a sign of confidence within someone.

Sometimes, answers seem unclear when you learn something new about yourself or the world around you. We worry we stress when, at times, it’s out of our control.

So when you are soul searching, do your best to seek understanding, then walk on your way confidently while being mindful of the answers that will be revealed to you.

The Power To Change Your Life

These lyrics are my favorite part of the whole song!

Lyrics

“.., life is your birthright, they hid that in the fine print

Uh, take the pen and rewrite it

Step out your estimate…”

Going back to the ideology of being a Living Manifestation of prophecy, some people get worried that things that are prophetic mean that is your fate. It doesn’t matter what you do or say; it will end up as if it’s been literally or metaphorically written that the ability to choose your life is for not.

However, I don’t believe this. We still have the precious gift in the form of free will. We can choose!

Even in the Bible, which Beyoncé mentions at the beginning of her song, there are prophecies of the righteous and the wicked about our day. From a religious perspective, I have no doubt it will happen, but I can still choose whether I will be good or bad. That is still our choice as individuals.

I love the illustration Beyoncé puts into our minds of physically changing our destiny by rewriting it with a pen. It’s just an excellent, motivational image in my mind.

Then, “step out your estimate.”

That estimate can come from the people around us or us. By stepping out of what we or others envision of our lives, we show that we are more than what we are, which stretches the bounds of our success!

Self Awareness

Lyrics

“…Rise (rise), the spirit is teachin’

Oh, I’m not just preachin’, I’m takin’ my own advice…”

Self-awareness is critical to constant progress in life. So when someone shares intellect with you while also implying that they have integrated it into their lives, it shows a fundamental principle of personal growth: honesty.

I don’t know about all of you, but people who are self-aware of their strengths, weaknesses, and relation to the world, I tend to trust more. If you can be honest with yourself openly, that increases the chance for honesty when communicating with others.

It doesn’t need to be a big disclaimer. Still, it reminds others that you are human, just like they are, especially in a position that Beyoncé is in where people may look up to her as a paragon.

Also, you want to listen to people who take their advice.

Remember

It’s okay not to be perfect right now! Just know you have the power and capability to change for the better. It all starts with a bit of self-awareness and a pen.
