Is AI Writing as Bad as Bad Writing?

ChatGPT was released at the end of 2022. Since then, we have seen a rise in writings produced by AI across Medium and everywhere else.

It has permeated our lives.

My initial thoughts were that AI writing tools were wonderful! I no longer have to pull my hair out to write a cover letter — awesome! It can also plan outlines with substantial details — what a lifesaver!

As much as I love ChatGPT and other AI writing tools, there is a big BUT — or more.

One of my biggest issues with relying on AI for writing is that we can spot it from a mile away.

People who use AI might think that others won’t know. AI has come a long way and is incredibly versatile, flexible, and adaptable. However, I am sorry to burst the bubble because we most definitely can spot when ChatGPT wrote your articles. I have also seen comments that are clear as day AI. I know what you think — even comments?

I, too, was shocked when I read a comment left on an article of mine. It read, “ The writer elaborated… “

Come on!

There are other tale-tell signs that I have observed. For example, writings that feel overly decorative yet at the same time lack depth. There are catchy words, but they don’t…
