How One Report Changed the Course of History
If you were asked to name the single most significant report to have come out in the last 10 years, which one would that be?
If you said “” by McKinsey & Company, then you’d be right. This is the single most important report to have come out in the last 10 years, as it completely shifted the course along which the world was developing up until that point.
There’s just one problem with the report, however… it was wrong.
Good Marketing, Bad Implementation
The problem with McKinsey’s initial report is that it gave too much of a marketing budget to information that was poorly interpreted.
McKinsey’s initial report in Why diversity matters was that companies that prioritised having diverse employees showed increased financial income. This message was then marketed to other notable corporations as “Diversity = more profits.” And considering how avaricious corporations are by nature, they swallowed the message up without even blinking an eye.
This led to a whole wave of diversity campaigns and affirmative action initiatives in the mid-2010s across different sectors of the market and broader society as a whole. Most notorious of which is BlackRock’s DEI Initiative which was revealed by their CEO, Larry…
