Is It Worth Paying For Reviews?
And which ARC services are worth their salt?
You’ve written your novel. Perhaps you’ve had it professionally edited and proofread. You’ve got a gorgeous cover and your book is ready to go. But as every self-publishing author knows, marketing is everything. You need to generate some buzz around this book and get the word out there.
What better way than to get some reviews before your book is even published?
This is where writers sometimes send out Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) to BookTokers, Bookstagrammers, bloggers, and any other sort of book reviewer they can find.
The task of finding and recruiting so many reviewers can be arduous and time consuming, so, naturally, all manner of random people from the internet have made themselves available to distribute your book to ARC reviewers for you. For a fee, of course.
As my regular readers will know, I run a boutique publishing house, and therefore I have a good deal of experience in this area. Below, I will outline a few of the big ones and explain the pros and cons of the process to help you on your publishing journey.
