Dear AI Tools, I Wrote This. Why Don’t You Believe Me?
The Frustration of Being Mistaken for a Machine
Lately, I’ve been struggling with AI detection tools.
As a journalist, I enjoy writing clear, informative pieces. The kind where I break down complex topics into simple, digestible pieces.
It’s not just a stylistic preference. It’s central to how I approach journalism — fact-based, data-driven, yet simple and easy to comprehend.
My writing often involves citations, data, quotes, and verified references.
Everything needed to ensure accuracy and credibility.
But here’s the catch!
Whenever I create these kinds of articles, they often get flagged as “AI-generated.”
The worst part?
The research-heavy elements — data, expert quotes, and references — usually trigger the flag.
Ironically, the components that make a piece authentic are now being read as signs of artificiality.
It doesn’t matter how much time I spend rewriting, fact-checking, or polishing.
Somehow, the tone, the structure, or maybe even the absence of anecdotal fluff sets off the detectors.
