4 Months on Medium and Barely 100 Reads, Here’s What I’m Changing
I Thought Medium Would Reward My Effort. It Didn’t
I won’t lie, with such progress and no result, it would make someone question why they started the journey.
I continued writing because I expected something in my writing to change. Well, they didn’t. I expected regular submission of content to bring positive results. It didn’t.
My blind writing continued as I anticipated that the platform would handle everything on its own.
I had it wrong from the beginning. I didn’t think about headlines. I didn’t care about structure. I didn’t promote my work. I believed my narrative needed no additional enhancement.
Medium's operation is different from what authors initially expect. At the time, I set pen to paper with whatever thoughts came to mind. People would be unlikely to pause to read what I wrote.
Then I started paying attention. The writers I studied managed to accumulate large numbers of readers. The writers managed to write powerful content while making deliberate choices. They picked strong topics. They opened strong. They posted in publications. The writers used Medium as an actual platform instead of using it like an individual blog.
