The Real Star of “A Quiet Place: Day One” is the Beauty of Silence
And yes — there are Thrills and Chills Galore!

In the haunting new film — a prequel to earlier films in the franchise, New York is taken over by blind aliens who attack and devour their victims who they find through sound. But while the movie will give you thrills and chills, especially on a hot summer day — it has a certain kind of poetry that I found original and affecting.
Directed by, known for the critically acclaimed “Pig” which starred Nicholas Cage, the story focuses on Samira a young woman poet who is terminally ill and lives in a hospice.
Reuben, a kindly male nurse played by , has eyes that exude empathy and caring. At the start of the film, he persuades Samira — who everyone calls Sam — and who has just read to the other desperately sick people in her group therapy a cynical and despairing poem about what her illness has done to her — to come on a trip to NYC to see a show.
She only promises to come on the trip with Reuben and the rest of the group as long as she can have a slice of pizza “in the city.” That seems to have a magical allure for her. Frodo, her “therapy cat,” who also has poetic and…
