Picturesque El Medano

There’s a beautiful seaside town on the south coast of Tenerife called El Medano. This windy place is one of my favourites along the coast of this volcanic island.

I am fortunate enough to live on the scenic island of Tenerife and having been inspired by Stuart Aken who shares his #ScenicSaturday, I want to share all the beautiful places I encounter right on my doorstep.

El Medano sits in the evening shadow of Red Mountain, or La Montaña Roja, which is surrounded by its own nature reserve and reaches an impressive 171 metres.

The town itself hosts a few open plazas, where certain events and markets are held. The main plaza, situated right next to the main beach, is normally packed during big Spanish fiestas like San Juan or the burning of the sardine on Ash Wednesday. They have a huge party to celebrate each new year and during the course of the year have many markets, festivals and live music.
