Feeling Guilty For Being Happy In Love
I think dating doomscrolling is to blame.
Dating content commandeers every social media platform. From the forums on Reddit, to people searching for advice on Facebook, to TikTok being oversaturated with people disclosing very personal stories about love gone wrong — it’s overwhelming.
Not to mention the immense wave of single content in recent years. Single content can be empowering, and valuable. The notion that you’re only complete if you’re partnered is a load of crap. Being happily single is possible and there’s tons of women who’ve cracked that code.
Content like that really helped me when I was healing, celibate, and focusing on myself.
Then there’s the single content that’s a bit toxic. Content that’s cynical and jaded. Content that says, “All men want is a housework slave that they can control.” Content that harps on the fact that relationships oftentimes come to an end. Content where one or both parties feel like their life is ruined because they chose to love and it didn’t work out. That content is extreme.
I still consume that kind of content from time to time. I find other people’s dating experiences fascinating. I mean, I’m a relationship blogger myself, hah. However, it’s super…
