Have you ever listened to a song
and it reminded you of a place or a particular thing?
Like this song is tied to this memory.
When you hear it, that is what pops up in your mind.

How is it that this sacred song reminds me of you?
What we had was sacred
so sacred were the things we did together,
yet so unclean.

You once called this your "bring me to the altar-song."
Was I supposed to laugh or kneel. I was confused.

I wish what we had knew no boundaries.
I wish our faith in each other had no bounds.
I wish what we had was a force
not even oceans could separate.

Once upon a time,
you gave me a memorable week.
I was on a high without the drugs.
That kind of tie would take many souls to break it.

My soul still carries fragments of you.
And whenever this song plays,
you play along with it in my mind—rent-free.
