Once upon a time I loved you
without a second thought.
You had me enraptured,
by you I’d been caught.

A love to last through space and time
lacking worldly worry or fear.
A love to build a life upon
emotional, free, and clear.

Once upon a time I loved you
without reservation, no lies.
I made you part of my life — my world,
I saw happiness through your eyes.

To you I’d have given the world
dressed in a little bow.
Do anything to calm your fear,
fix each woe, to help you grow.

Once upon a time I loved you
and I was sure you felt the same.
But then you threw my love away.
I felt such pain, such shame.

Everything I did was for us.
I thought this time was good.
But then you threw my love away
and caused despair I’m shocked to have withstood.
