“What is it that you like to eat?”
The moment I ask this question I see my patient taken aback. The face shows an array of expressions from amusement to confusion to sometimes even irritation.
“Nothing in particular, doctor. I eat everything.”
That is the standard answer that we get 90 per cent of the time as if the patient is buying time to recover from the shock.
“Is there a particular taste you like? Suppose I ask you to pick one from sweet, sour, spicy and salty which one would you choose?”
At this stage, 70 per cent give in to their inner child and select an option. The others are still confused and reluctant to let go with an expression that says -
This doctor just doesn’t seem to give up. What’s she got to do with what I like to eat?
What they are unaware of is that this is just the beginning of the detailed personal history that we need to take during a homoeopathic case-taking session.
