Promises and Steps Taken by Governments and Companies to Protect Against Climate Change.
Are they effective today?
Despite many promises and actions by governments and companies around the world, the effectiveness of these measures in fighting climate change is still in question. Let’s look at the steps taken and the problems that reduce their impact.
Government Initiatives
1. International Agreements and National Policies.
Governments have signed international agreements like the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming. However, many countries have not met their targets, and some have even left the agreement at times. There are no strict rules to make sure countries follow through, so they can make promises without facing serious consequences if they don’t keep them.
2. Carbon Pricing
Carbon pricing, such as carbon taxes and cap-and-trade systems, is seen as a good way to reduce emissions. But its use has been uneven and sometimes controversial. In some places, carbon taxes have caused economic problems, especially for low-income families. Also, the money from these taxes is not always used for renewable energy projects, raising doubts about their overall effectiveness.
