Born From Surrogacy, She’s Fighting for Its Abolition, Let’s Hear What She Has To Say
Plus a psychogenealogical point of view
Olivia Maurel decided to give a voice to those children who are never heard of, children sold and bought, torn from their mothers at birth. She knows what she’s talking about because she’s one of them. She was born from surrogacy. Now she has made it her combat to fight against surrogacy, asking for its abolition.
As it is so rare to hear from this side of the bargain, I think we should listen to what she has to say. Faced with couples who brandish their desire for a child as a justification for using the new assisted reproductive techniques, it seems to me essential to listen to the suffering of children born as a result of these practices.
Olivia Maurel’s testimony (link below) is particularly interesting and moving. Born to a surrogate mother, Olivia didn’t know how she had been born, until she was finally able to find her biological mother thanks to a DNA test.
As her mother was too old to have a baby, her parents decided to have a child through surrogacy.
The suffering she went through has prompted her to fight against surrogacy.
