When Sound Traveled in a Vacuum: A 9th-grade Experiment!
You can even hear sound in a vacuum. Try this!
I was studying in 9th standard. Our teachers were already frightened that “9th standard is as important as 10th. 9th marks would be in your 10th-grade card.” It haunted my mind, so I planned to be serious about my studies. The classes were going well, and I was trying to stay on track.
The day I heard about ‘vacuum’ for the first time was during my physics class. The physics teacher was strict, but at the same time, she taught well. She taught many things about the vacuum, but one thing that struck my mind was, “Sound can’t travel through a vacuum.” It stuck in my brain just like that.
When I was back home, my father got a flask for free when he purchased a pressure cooker. Even though it was free, it seemed to be of good quality. It was well-secured in its box. When I looked into that box, what caught my eye was ‘vacuum flask’. “Yes, it’s the same word I learned today – ‘vacuum’.” I told my parents about the vacuum and passed on the information that sound cannot travel through a vacuum. My mind was now set for a practical study of the ‘vacuum’. The happiness was that I was able to convince my parents to try the experiment.
