Optimism as a Decision in This Global Climate

With everything happening in the West, the United States, Latin America, and my own country, it is easy to panic and feel devastated. But I refuse to do it, and it is not to “look the other way” or ignore reality; it is for my health.

I am a young adult autistic woman with extra genetic conditions that cause me to have complex health needs; in addition to being physically disabled for these same reasons, my daily life includes a kind of chance of knowing if I am going to be okay that day or not. If I’m going to decompensate or if I’m going to have a lot of pain and sensory overload.

All this makes it very easy to get on the negative side, add to this the global reality or just the entire American Continent, and it is more than enough reason for my health to worsen. So, what is the solution? Well, I opt for optimism as an option for resistance and survival.

To do this in the best possible way, I even looked up the definition of optimism to see if I was using the term correctly.

— the quality of being full of hope and emphasizing the good parts of a situation, or a belief that something good will happen.
