How A Dahlia Garden Can Save Thousands of Dollars
Gorgeous flowers to use for a beautiful wedding day
Flowers for a wedding can be expensive. However, if you have a dahlia garden you could save those costs. We did. It does take some planning.
It was this time last year our youngest daughter was getting married. The ceremony and reception were in our backyard, and the wedding flowers came from our garden.
We were fortunate our daughter picked a late summer wedding date. That is when dahlias are in their prime. Overflowing, in our case.
We planned to use those flowers for the wedding arch, for flowers down the aisle, for reception table centerpieces, and around the tent poles. We even used them for the bridal bouquets and corsages.
It saved us thousands of dollars. We were our own florist. Yes, it took work, but using the flowers from our home made the wedding even more special.
Dahlias grow from bulbs. In the northern states (we live in PA), they need to be dug up each fall, stored over the winter and replanted each spring to grow and bloom into the fall, or to first frost.
