Yes, I have a huge archive of photos, not only digital files but photo albums, boxes and plastic tubs of prints as well.

asked in one of my stories, “How do you organize all those pics so you can find them when you want them?”

The short answer is I use keywording and dates when organizing my digital images. The photo albums I have on shelves and over the years I know what photos are in what album, for the most part. The tubs and boxes? Those are rainy-day projects, time-consuming and huge, huge rabbit holes.

Here is some information about how I use a date-based folder structure in Adobe Lightroom to keep my digital images organized. At the end of this article is a link to more tips on organizing your photo collection.

Date-based, topic-based, a mix of both? How we organize our images is likely as diverse as the many different genres of photos we all create as photographers. It’s personal.
