How I Captured the Dramatic Break of a Glacier in Action!

Prince William Sound has around 150 glaciers, and we just had the chance to visit one of them. The Nellie Juan Glacier is immense, and it might be hard to grasp its true size unless I give you a clue.

Yes circled in red is our 3.5 metre dinghy.

As soon as we parked our dinghy, we heard cracking sounds, and we guessed it was time for the massive ice chunk — about the size of a bus — to break off and float out to sea. I quickly got my drone in the air and started recording.

Although the sun wasn’t exactly where I wanted it to be and I didn’t have much time to decide whether to record from the side or directly from above, I chose to shoot from the side and a bit higher. I adjusted the gimbal slightly downward to prevent the sun from glaring through and disturbing the lens. This time…
