A Square Peg in a Round Hole
The shape of photography
If you are a writer I would imagine you want your work to be read. That is why you are here, no? If you are a photographer I would guess that you want your photographs to be seen. That is why many of you flock to photo-sharing websites like Flickr, 500px, or Instagram.
Some photographers build personal websites to share photos and/or promote their services for hire. Portrait, wedding, and other photographers rely on their websites to find clients and showcase their work.
Fine Art photographers do the same.
Many years ago, I built my own photo website from scratch. Those were the days before drag-and-drop template websites like WordPress, Squarespace, or Wix became ubiquitous.
I had to type the HTML code line-by-line, pay a hosting company to host the website and update and maintain the site on my own. My goal was to generate interest in my Fine Art photography. The return on investment was minimal. The site got very little traffic and virtually no sales.
I closed the website when I found representation with a gallery willing to promote and sell my work. I was happy to let others take care of that side of things. Business has never been my business.
