The Death of Western Values: Why Community, Not Capitalism, Will Define the Future
The tectonic shift from West to East arrived.
My article about the decreasing importance of money in the future and the rising value of community received an overwhelming response from readers on Medium. It spoke to many because, deep down, humans crave connection more than constant consumption. We yearn for belonging and belonging to tribes, but Western values have eroded these notions.
But what exactly are “Western values”?
For decades, Western societies have upheld individualism, personal freedom, meritocracy, and capitalism as the cornerstones of progress.
The message is simple: work hard, make money, and success will follow. Personal rights take precedence over collective well-being, competition outweighs collaboration, and a nation’s success is measured by economic growth.
