As I entered the hotel’s bar, I scanned the other patrons eagerly, hoping to get a feel for how things were going to go tonight. A few couples were scattered around the room, and a table of boisterous businessmen had taken up residence at the opposite end of the room, away from the bar. Disappointingly, none of them stood out to me, so I headed to one of the low tables near the unlit fireplace. On my way, I nodded to Stan working behind the bar, indicating I’d have my usual.
