The Dark Side of Hustle Culture Nobody Talks About
It’s not just about hard work — it’s about what you lose along the way
The first time I fell, I could easily tell myself I had just worked too much and I was too tired.
My vision became blurry as I kept typing on the keyboard while doing my work. A strong feeling in my chest made me think I was having a heart attack for a moment before the pain started to fade. Once again, it was all done after just the same amount of time.
After taking a sip of cold coffee, I took a moment to relax and kept working.
Just push through.
That was my mantra. You can find this idea in many popular Instagram quotes, speeches at TED events, and shouted by rich internet personalities on YouTube. Hustle harder. Sleep later. Grind now, relax never.
I believed it.
Things continued until my body told me it had reached its limit.
The Lie We All Bought Into
Hustle culture encourages individuals to keep striving because if you continue, you will attain your goals.
But nobody tells you the fine print:
- Success might come, but so will burnout.
