The New Male IUD Comes with Anesthesia, So Why Doesn’t the Female One?
I guess pain is a woman’s burden, and comfort is a man’s right
“Just take a deep breath.”
That’s what the nurse told me as I lay on the table, legs apart, heart racing, trying to act like I wasn’t terrified.
I was getting an IUD.
No anesthesia, no pain relief, just me, a speculum, and a deep breath that didn’t do much. I’d read the stories online, some women passed out, some screamed, some cried afterward. I told myself I’d be fine. I mean some people could just be exaggerating, if it was that bad, the doctor wouldn’t describe it as a “slight pinch.” They would not lie. Right?
Well, they did. I ended up not even getting it, because I found the pain unbearable.
So, when I recently heard about , a new male contraceptive being called the “IUD for men,” I was intrigued. Then I found out the procedure comes with local anesthesia — and of course it does. It’s designed for men.
ADAM is being hailed as “a major milestone in male contraception.” And honestly? It’s long overdue. If you think about it, women are only fertile for a few days each month. Men, on the other hand, are fertile every day, all year round. If anyone should be…
