Drones Despoil Desert Landscape While Preparing to Deliver Death
Peace activists protest America’s culpability in genocide
Across the flat landscape along Nevada’s highway 5, about 50 miles north of Las Vegas, drivers pass a small town called Indian Springs, which sits between smooth brown rolling hills on one side of the highway and peaceful mountainous ice-capped mountains on the other side. A few months ago, I was inspired by past images of peaceful protests, so I went to see for myself what happens when Peace activists face armed guards at the air base that serves as a strategic center of drone warfare.
Creech Air Force Base, near Indian Springs, Nevada has drawn the ire of non-violence anti-drone protesters for the past 15 years. When there are no protests, drivers pass by all the time without knowing what really happens in the middle of this beautiful open desert.
Since Israel’s powerful reaction to Hamas’ brutal attack in Israel on October 7, 2023, civil society groups have staged a wide range of responses to Israel’s continuous daily violent targeting of innocent civilians with the most sophisticated military arms in the world. The protests in front of Creech are still not widely covered by mainstream media.
