NOT an eye for an eye
I, like most Americans, don’t have a dog in the fight over the Gaza Strip. I am neither ethnically Jewish nor Palestinian. That being said, I do have something in common with all parties involved. I am human. As a human I fully understand the “eye for an eye” concept that started the madness in that region of the world.
When you oversimplify, what we really have is two nations without a home doing the best they can to correct that. Like other parts of the world, they were all screwed over by various colonizers meddling in parts of the world they did not understand. Unfortunately, for reasons both in and out of the control of these two groups, they consider “home” the same geographical area and they cannot seem to cohabitate. I empathize and sympathize with both groups — as an African American I don’t really have a home either. I am too African for some Americans and too American for Africa.
Decades after the issues became apparent, they are still fighting. I understand the problem. What I don’t understand is the “final solution” direction the latest wave of the problem has taken. Yes, a faction of the Palestinian side of the issue attacked first and in a horrible way. I am in no way defending the attack by Hamas in October. However, just like all White Americans are not racist, just like all Black Americans are not criminal…
