What do Gaza, the Amazon rainforest, and an uninhabited island near Antarctica have in common? Do I hear you saying, "They are all crying for help?”

If you also added, "They are victims of policies driven by power and greed," then you deserve an honorary degree in Global Affairs (or at least a knowing nod from anyone paying attention).

The world watches. The world shrugs. The world moves on.

Let’s start with the absurd

Trump, in his infinite wisdom, has decided to slap a 10% tariff on goods from Heard Island and McDonald Islands. If you’ve never heard of them, don’t worry. Neither has 99.9% of the planet.

These Australian territories are uninhabited, frozen wastelands populated exclusively by penguins and seals. But apparently, these animals are guilty of some grand economic conspiracy against America.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese summed it up best:

"Nowhere on Earth is safe." —
