I Love My Way of Life
A poem modeled after a poem by Hanshan, the reclusive 9th century Chinese poet from Cold Mountain who is credited with 320 poems meditating on mind & mindfulness, the moon, nature, self and more.
I love my way of life
A one-hundred year old house
A sixty-year old husband
A seventeen year old son
Soon off on his own adventure.
And me, a struggling playwright,
Drinking failure like rye.
Fantasies of success evaporate like dew.
Still here I am again — writing.
I will never choose comfort over pleasure.
