I Don’t Feel Bad for Incels
And you shouldn’t either
An incel is an involuntary celibate and the term is used by young men who want to have sex or be in relationships but aren’t able to. At a surface level, there’s nothing wrong with this; dating and socializing in general is difficult, especially in an increasingly individualistic and Capitalist society. I’m even willing to say that men have problems women don’t; gender roles and expectations are rapidly changing, and I can understand that some men feel a bit lost as to what they should be. It’s fine and reasonable for those men to want to find a community.
The problem is, incels aren’t interested in self-improvement. They don’t discuss themselves or each other, they don’t look for solutions to their problems or even try to find happiness outside of a relationship. Instead, they spend their time wallowing in their own sorrow and blaming women for all of their problems.
Incels got mainstream attention once again due to Netflix’s show Adolescence, which is about a 13-year-old boy, Jamie, who murders his female classmate, Katie. She called Jamie an incel before the murder.
