Hallmark Movies Are About Turning Ambitious Women into Trad Wives
Promoters of traditional values want modern women to be in love, and dreaming of the aesthetics of their favorite Tradwives
Conservative values are back. That’s what people are saying in 2025, but they never really left us. They have always been here, camouflaged in romantic films like the well-known Hallmark movies.
A few years ago, I dated a misogynist and narcissist. He represented everything I dislike in men (and people in general), and I represented everything he disliked in modern women.
It was obvious to me that it was a “thank-you-and-goodbye” situationship. But for him, it was a challenge. Despite my very firm views, which were opposite of his, he tried to change me. He saw me as some kind of feral cat that he could tame… for his own ego.
He tried to do to me what Hallmark movies do to their lead women: brainwashing.
In this Hallmark movie universe, the change is handled subtly. You don´t see the lead guy manipulating the girl or abusing her. That wouldn't be romantic. Instead, her change is slow and comes at the end of the movie, like an epiphany.
