Are We Fighting for the Right Things?
Judging a comment vs. judging a system
Before we dive into this, let’s be clear — this is not about debating a comedy show, dark humour, or content creators. The real question is: Are we focusing on the right issues or just following whatever the media and politicians push our way?
Right now, India is caught up in a controversy involving a well-known podcaster who promotes self-improvement and mindfulness. Yet, on a comedy show known for dark humour, he made inappropriate remarks about kids watching their parents have sex. It was disturbing, not funny, and has rightfully upset many people. Now, there are calls to boycott him, FIRs filed, and debates about freedom of speech all over the news.
But let’s take a step back. This show has been popular for a long time. It has millions of views, and people have enjoyed it without protest — until now. If people watch something, creators will keep making it. That’s how supply and demand work. So why is there sudden outrage now? Why didn’t this concern exist before?
The Bigger Picture
My point is not about defending the show or the podcaster’s comments. It’s about what we, as a society, choose to fight for.
