Monkey Island
A monkey’s-eye view of purpose, curiosity, and the beautiful madness of exploration
Non-members can read the piece here.
There are a bunch of silly, idealistically loving monkeys living on an island called Banabalu.
It’s a large circular lump of sand and dirt in the middle of the vast ocean, full of lush greenery, crawling rivers, deep caves, and roaring waterfalls.
There’s also a mountain whose peak oversees the entirety of the island, but no monkey has yet to summit it.
These monkeys are not quite sure how they got on Banabalu, but they don’t really have time to think about it either.
In fact, most of what they have time for is “Core Banana.” It’s what every monkey does and is necessary for survival:
Finding food and water.
Procreating and expanding habitat.
Socializing.
Protecting the young…
Of course, when those things are settled or taken care of intermittently, there’s a bit of free time to explore the island.
Free time isn’t the only prerequisite for such extracurriculars, however.
