“Bro, you’re not gonna believe the shit I just saw.” Alfredo stumbled into the dingy hotel room. “A magician, dude. Like, for real. That’s the revolution, man. Magic. We gotta put some in the show.”

His phone buzzed and he squinted at the message.

Alfredo opened the attached audio file, and Tim’s gorgeous voice squeezed his heart. Why hadn’t he stayed in like he’d asked?

“I gave my life up, to be your backup
and all the shit’s gone dow-n.
My bruised heart writes songs, it’s where it be-longs,
not watching you play the town.”
