This double drabble (a story in 200 words) must contain the word ‘mirage’ and start with ‘Rain whispers secrets to the earth.” It’s always fun to read your comments and see what you highlight!

Rain whispers secrets to the earth. The sky behaves like an anxious child trying not to tattle on their sibling. It holds the secrets as long as it can before bursting forth and letting out every tale it has seen from above to its only trusted friend.

The showers pinpoint the very spots where darkness has corrupted the land. Grateful, the earth allows the torrents to erode the surroundings to reveal evidence that has been waiting to be seen — no longer hidden beneath the mirage of untouched soil.

Now it’ll be time for the bones to explain their demise. Weapons lie twisted, straining to guard the last traces of truth. As if led by unseen hands, some unsuspecting soul will stumble upon the remnants — and begin unearthing a story long buried. Another mystery will be solved, and the rain will move on.

Next time you see the rain pour forth, remember it may be unveiling. Cleansing. Confessing. If you’re the one who sees it, watch where it falls. Listen to what it stirs up. Buried things don’t stay buried forever. There’s always a reason for the rain’s whisper. You might just…
