The challenge — to write a 200-word story using the word, hollow.
The twist — story ends with ‘he found peace in the silence’.
Greg hated his job.
He had been doing the same thing for 10 years.
In the beginning he had been enthusiastic. He had been eager to learn.
He felt very fortunate because he didn’t have the required qualifications.
But he was a likeable guy, and the person who interviewed him liked his attitude.
Greg loved the team he worked with. They had a real laugh.
They went out for drinks after work. They celebrated each other’s birthdays.
It was a real pleasure to clock in every morning.
But then things changed.
The old boss retired and was replaced by a micromanager.
The new guy implemented changes that didn’t make sense.
There was anger and hostility in the office where there had once been fun and jokes.
People started to leave, and their replacements were not interested in friendship or camaraderie. They came in, did the job, and went home.
