Double Drabbles are very short stories of precisely 200 words. This one had to to be based on a odd collection of electronic cables and connectors.

I had managed to assemble almost the entire device using odd cables, connectors and other stuff from boxes of discarded machinery and electronics hoarded over the years. Except for three special units I had to order over the internet. I saved a pile by getting two from surplus electronics sites, but had to pay a bundle for the double-phased, multifunction McDrabble transition amplifier, only available from Angus Equipment.

The schematic I’d been using came from a murky site deep on the dark web that lacked assembly details and had some fuzzy specs, so that I wasn’t fully confident that my jury-rigged bits and pieces would behave as required.

I wasn’t even sure what would happen if it did work. The pictures on the website of dragons, goblins and other really weird creatures looked exciting! The images of exploding planets and hoards of what might…
