Marni felt as if her foot was stuck in quicksand. She was rooted to the spot.
She had lost her mojo.
It was because of her job.
She used to love working for the Med & Ium Brothers.
It used to be a fun place to work.
You could show up at any time and do as little or as much work as you wished.
At the end of the month, you would be rewarded with a healthy sum of money.
In some countries, it wasn’t enough to live on, but Marni was able to pay for day trips and buy wonderful books.
Recently the place changed. Had the brothers sold their soul to some nameless corporation?
Earnings turned from pounds to pennies, and longstanding employees left in droves.
The atmosphere shifted.
Marni didn’t turn up for work as often as she had before, and this was reflected in her pay.
Some months she didn’t even meet the payout requirement.
