Nonmembers Can Currently Give Any Medium Article 50 Claps
Call your friends and family who normally can’t be bothered to read your work and tell them to get clapping!
Maybe it’s a glitch. Maybe a mistake. But it’s real! Everyone — even nonmembers — can clap 50 times on every article you have ever posted on Medium.
Once a month, I would have my husband and daughter — both nonmembers — give 50 claps for three poorly performing articles I posted on Medium. In October 2023, my husband mentioned that he could not read the entire article, but he was able to give it 50 claps. Interesting? I didn’t think too much about it. Last month, when he reported the same situation I grabbed his phone and gave every article I had ever written 50 claps. Then, I did the same thing with my daughter’s phone. I doubt that I made money off those claps, but they did impact my views.
Do claps even matter anymore? Probably not. But Medium seems to change their “rewards” policy every few months. Something fresh and new is always coming down the pipeline.
