Cal had not told Emery what he had planned, the calls he’d made, the research he’d done. Emery had a hearing and Cal was testifying. Cal was so nervous because there was more he was planning.
He was up early, had taken time off work, and was dressed formally. After fixing his collar, he rinsed his clammy hands and headed out the door.

Emery sat as arguments were made against him, as other colleagues vouched for him. So far, this had all been kept private, for which he was very grateful.
