Family
Family is an interesting concept, for which there are many descriptions and catch-phrases. One of my favorites is skin folk ain’t always kinfolk. I of course think of that phrase from a cultural space, but as a fiction writer who in real life has a diverse family of blood relatives as well as chosen family members, it goes deeper.
Family is blood and more.
Sometimes we struggle with the family we’re born into, but those people are still family. And then there are the ones we choose to allow close to our hearts who become family, maybe even closer.
For some of us, our pets are closer than blood relatives, and that’s okay too.
